Did Social media change us for good?
Like most things in life, trends, fads, cliques, and more can be negative or positive. We can take an experience, and, based on our emotional and mental response, we may end up feeling misplaced or lost.
Sometimes specific trends, social media platforms, and, yes, even your friend groups can become toxic or may not align with your growth.
I recently read an article on Medium about toxic social media behavior. The article got me pondering and looking at my experience with social media. Are we obsessing and comparing, or are we engaged and supporting our influencers, brands, or public figures?
After my last few experiences with social media as a brand, I have found that people can develop an unhealthy attachment to those they follow. The way I have presented my brand needs to reflect the sacredness of the practice. Unfortunately, very toxic platforms can create unhealthy environments for bullying, harassment, and even hazing. Since 2018 I have experienced similar treatments due to the sensitive and raw nature in which I help others.
In a world that instead lives “fantasy vs. real,” we lose sight of what’s important, only to sacrifice our values and integrity to “fit in.” Do not get all doom and gloom, and never try or continue social media. We must find platforms providing support, balance, and energy exchanges. Now all platforms will have some level of toxicity due to the nature of the social environment.
Here are some tips to help you find your tribe, build a community and avoid the heavy and brutal energies.
Look for ideal topics and customers/followers
Stay consistent with your message
Form a group where you can share and build
Build a relationship with close moderators
Take breaks and pre-plan content
The most important thing to remember is that we do not know what’s happening behind the scenes, so you will attract those higher vibrational people when you are your authentic self. Many people use social media for likes and fame, sometimes scamming others. Keep your inner circle strong so that you have a robust support system when you experience cyberbullying or toxicity on social media,
Also, do not be afraid to say no.
